Deadlift grip questions

Ok folks, I think I finally realized that grabbing the bar palms down isn't going to work much longer. I had to take last week off, but the week before that my grip was going to shit when pulling for sets at 295lbs. I knew it wasn't good, because I'll be pulling for sets over 300lbs soon and I can't be failing because of my grip.

I went to do deads today and dropped back to 285 because of the week off and also because the past month I havn't been able to lift as much as I'd like. After 2 warm up sets, I was ready to pull and decided to try a mixed grip. I was amazed with the results. My grip felt a lot stronger and my body was wearing out before my hands were.

I had my left hand underhand and my right hand overhand. I switched the way each of my hands were facing and I wasn't nearly as comfortable, so I went back to how I started.

Do you guys that do a mixed grip keep it the same all the time? Do you switch it every other rep or set? Are there any disadvantages of not switching which way each hand is facing?

I dl with my grip the same.Possibly start doing some hanging from a bar with your hands.I hang from the squat rack for as long as I can it has a wider bar so it makes grip harder.Also dumbell holds will increase your grip.Do you use chalk?It makes a hell of a difference.
My grip is always left under right over.It hasnt made a difference in muscle balance or anything for me and my deadlift was in the 400 range

No chalk or wraps or anything for deads. I'm sure I'll have to make the move to chalk eventually.

I asked the gym if they had chalk and they said no, they have wraps. I went to the local suppliment store and he had some spray on stuff and I decided not to. I gave up the search after that. Maybe I'll just steal some from one of my classes and rub it all over my hands.

I found an athletes corner store had it dunno if you have that shop there or not they are a chain.

At first I ended up with gymnastic chalk which was crap.
apt pro wrist straps also sells chalk by the pound.a pound of chalk blocks will friggin last you forever

Maybe I should ask the gym manager to buy a pound of chalk then. Last year I asked her if she could order me a shorter box for box squats. She got me a 12" box, metal frame with a non-slip rubber top.

They are putting a shitload of money into renovations right now and I have a feeling it'll reflect in tuition prices eventually. Still, they don't seem to have a problem with getting new equipment when necessary.

I always use the same grip. And chalk is awesome, way better than straps.

straps piss me off! I have messed with them and messed with them I gave up trying to use em.One of the competitions I was doing had a sponsored deadlift.Only if you used straps.I chose to forfeit the prize money cause I wouldnt use the lifting straps

I use them because my gym *****es me out about chalk.

well if you bring your gym bag with you.the part where you keep your chalk should have just enough in the bottom of it for them to not notice you using it.No one has ever said anything to me but I know chalk isnt allowed at our gym.I still use it phuck em if they dont like it

the one over one under definitely makes a difference, i ran into the same problem when i first began DL'ing.............someone showed me the one over one under, can't remember what its called..................I always do right under left over too. I'll NEVER use straps, for the same reason i never use a belt..............it is kind of a crutch and will create weak points in the areas it aids...........i might consider using for a one rep max..........but other then that i stay away from any kind of assistance. I would resort to chalk if i felt i needed too..........haven't yet though.
