Chest Training

[Hard Gainer]

This is coming from a guy at my gym who I respect. He looks great and everytime we've worked out together, he kicks my ass. He mentioned that he broke his chest training into two sections. Week one-all upper chest. Incline DB, Incline BB, Incline flyes, etc........Week two-lower and middle chest. Flat DB, flat BB, reg. flyes, declines, etc. What do you guys think about this ? What I have always done is switched what exercise I do first (week one-start with incline, then move to flat.....week two-start with flat, move to incline) Everyone vote.

Well, whatever works. I don't think I'd like it though. I feel like when I do chest, I hit the whole muscle group. I don't do decline anythings. I feel like they are waste of time.

i think like you on this one, but i've heard of others splitting upper n middle chest workouts like hardgainer mentioned, people who've had success w/ it. I think deacon said he does something similar as well..........correct me if im wrong, but i thought i remembered reading that he splits upper n middle up into two workouts.

I definitely respect Deacon's opinion. If he does it, than there must be something to it. I don't think I'll change my workout though. I did chest on Monday and it's still sore (Thursday here).

I ussually it the whole MG on one day, then at the end of the week throw in some sets to flush some blood... I guess it comes down to total volume of training for the week......

I like to hit flat and incline movements in the same workout...training chest more than once per week would be overtraining for me. I also like to keep the number of sets low...I don't do more than 8 working sets. I'm with Onerep on the notions of declines: I find them to be useless.

Typical chest workout for me:

Incline Barbell or Dumbell press: 3 sets
flat dumbell press: 2 sets
pec deck: 1 set
incline dumbell flye: 1 set
cable crossover: 1 set

I've also made great size gains in the past using just 6 working sets. I think a lot of people overtrain their pecs, and it costs them size.

Like out of my mouth mr canadian hockeyman! If I was to hit both areas I´d do the m at same workout. Right now I´m giving upper chest all I have so here´s my typical menu : incl bb press 3x
floor benchpress 3x
Incl.bb press 2-3x ( very slow reps 3 sec down , 3sec up never locking out) grip width varies

If I was to hit the lower part i´d do reverse benches or reverse stop benches ( bb not touching chest having a 3 sec stop at the bottom).
