how do you get ready before a set?

Well, I've come to realize that some people find me arrogant and less than humble. For a bodybuilder those are necessary traits. My game is at least 90% mental. What gets me motivated is the desire to stand out in a room full of people.

If you don't compete at anything, you probably won't understand that.

I think I know what you mean. many champs have told same story. Gym is the place of working . It´s not a bar or like. Many people don´t realize that. BUT I see no reason why not to be polite for others. tHE usual "may I share this equipment w you " or does it take long for you to finish" You know. I haven´t seen a truly arrogant trainer ever in my years of various gyms. Much more on the easygoing side. But when those who were known to compete did their sets they were allowed to do so in silence.... it´s the unwritten etiquette or something....

If you are willing to step on stage in next to nothing, you have to have yourself convinced that you look great. Even if you don't.

I don't feel like I am entitled to anything in the gym than people who don't compete are.

I do talk myself up, in my own mind, to feel like I am unbeatable.

The first competition I was ever in. I got to prejudging and saw the other guys there. I was thinking "I should have just stayed home and washed my hair or something." There were like 20 dudes in my weight class. It was the Mississippi State Championships. Everyone in my weight class looked huge compared to the mental picture I had of me in my mind. To make a long story short, I got 3rd place. I missed 2nd by one point. I have always had a problem holding myself in high esteem (thanks mom). These days, I am my biggest fan. If I don't think I'm great, then I'll settle.

My motivation for the next set is knowing that i'll be onstage again. Winning doesn't start on contest day. It starts right now. It starts at the minute you decide you are going to step onstage. That is my motivation.
