Default Sholder Press, behind the head

I have done these always, but now am getting a lecture in my gym. Nice lady, gym mom, tells me I will do damage to my nerves and main vein in my sholder. So I googled it, and her point is valid. My question is who listens to this and skips Barbell behind the neck sholder presses? And if you do skip them, what all do you do for sholders?

I have read strapingyounglad's sholder post, and loved it... but his "sholder fly" can not be my only lift. I love the press, even though it uses tri's.

i actually dont incorporated the BNP in my workout routines, i use straight DB presses. however, i dont believe its that bad as some claim it too be. some of these same people who claim BNP is bad, will most likely say behind the neck pull downs are bad as well. now if your prone to shoulder injuries or have had shoulder injuries in the past, i would skip it. when working on your shoulders its imperative to kicks things off with some rotator cuff exercises.
people usually scum to injury when there technique is off + the use of heavy weight, yea ur definately gonna see something happen.

I always warm up my rotator cuffs before working out any part of my upper body for safe keeping. I noticed that people never really did thisat my gym, but then slowly but surely people would start to ask me what I was doing so I told them. Eventually one of the younger kids who doesn't know much about warming up a particular body part decided it was an excercise and started using heavy weight. Not a good idea to warm up something with heavy weight.

what about clean and press?I just started incorparating behind the neck presses into my shoulder routine I like them and seem to have more coordination with them than i do the ones in front.............

and besides everyone is different i would tell her the same thing i told the guy who suggested i dont do hack squats.............mind your own business

this is the only point where my shoulder injury rears its ugly head so I keep it light and use dbs.

I just hate that "feeling" behind the shoulders. I always stay in front or "on top" of the shoulders.

i just do standing barbell press in front, i love em. my current shoulder routine is.

standing barbell press - 5 x 5
barbell upright rowes - 3 x 8-10
db side lateral raise - 3 x 8-10
followed by supersets for bi's n tri's...............just starting doing arms w/ shoulders. Otherwise my arms get neglected.

I need to do them - I find it's the only way i can properly warm up my shoulders so I can hit-em HARD for the rest of the routine.

I try to do lifts my wife can do with me, and she is not ready for clean and press. The mind your own business is what I had in mind, just thought I would get some input from ya all first.

You know the thing that gets me. She is a squat queen. Does legs 2 days a week. And tell the story of how she can't go heavy cause she blew out her knee. If your worried about getting hurt, how can you love squats. I am sure more pain has come from them then sholder press.

I avoid them, because of the reasons you mentioned. I also had a shoudler problem back in 99 or so and my therapist told me the same thing. She also told me not to go much lower than 90 degrees on flat bench, but i tossed that idea.
