Pec pain-what should I do?

I've been progressively going heavier on my incline benches and flat benches for a few months with good progress before I began my diet. I only bench once a week but for some reason a few weeks ago I started out on some incline smith pressing and when I got to my workout weight I felt something in the delt-pec insertion point when lowering the weight. It felt like either a series of strains or mini-tears...I knew it could'nt be tears because my chest wasn't black & blue and I could finish my set but with pain. Now when I even try to approach the same weight I used for the workout I feel the same pain. My left side says "bring it on" but my right pec says "hell no". What gives? I think I'm going to stick to hammer presses and dumbbells for a while; it doen't hurt when I do them. Does anyone know what this is and will it go away?

just take a break, you seem to really need it

take a break , see a doc if that condition lasts for too many weeks. Once back in track try reverse grip benches for lower chest and if that incl still hurts lower the incline a bit . 45 degrees mainly hurts my delts , but lowering it helps.
Don´t do regular benches any more meself . when I did I did reverse grips . once you use to it it´s pain free from delts at least. try and see . Speedy recovery

I mention this in my post about the carnivore diet because potassium is crucial and difficult enough to get when you are eating carbs. When you don't eat carbs you don't hold water and your muscles tend to be dehydrated. Dehydrated muscles are succeptable to tearing. You must drink a lot of water and you should supplement potassium even though the FDA has tried to make this impossible in order to provide financial gain to drug companies. Surprise surprise. Potassium is necessary for muscle comtraction/relaxation, tissue rebuilding and so so much more.

I'm going to take a break from any benching for a while. I don't get that pain from dumbbells or from the hammer strength machines, so I think I will stick to them for the duration of my diet at least if not longer. Reverse grip sounds interesting, I might include that at the end of my workouts as well so lighter weights will be effective.

I was beginning to break new ground on my weight/reps with incline benching, but oh well this is for the better.:bigsmile

Thanks for the replies...I am going to add some potassium although it's a bit tough to get it nowadays. I will do some research and take SYL's input on getting enough potassium on his post.

I have exactly the same problem fella !!
Have had x-rays and all sorts..... nothing.
I am putting it down to scar tissue. All is fine on flat press but get the bench above 45 degrees and im in trouble. i just keep massaging it when working (real deap, get me thumb right in there) and that seems to kinda get me through 3 or 4 sets.

Obvious suggest : don´t go above 45 degrees.....it´s more of a shoulder work from that on. I use perhaps 30 or so ...
