What do you guys think about that kind of resistance training? Can a person get big and strong with these types of machines?

I think you could get stronger, deffinatly not bigger.

home gyms are good to keep inshape not to grow massive muscle.

This only applys if you have been lifting for years. If you are starting out the Bowflex and other machines are just fine. I had my bowflex many many years ago and got nice results. I outgrew the machine because I had it on MAX resistance for everything. These days they have the machines that got 4-5 hundread pounds of resistance. Free weights is the best way to go though. Cheaper to buy a "fold Up Bench" 300-400 pounds of weight, a curl bar, squat rack, dumbbells and whatever else you need.
