abdominal lockup

wondering if anyone expericenes this and how they go about training abs if they do. My brother asked me and i didnt know what the answer was. he says everytime he starts training abs in the first set his entire abdominal wall locks up and cramps and he cant do them. what would this be caused from??

keep in mind he has a good normal diet, not on juice and not pulling water out. only happens with abs no other muscles.

Is he taking any stimulants like caffeine or yohimbine? These can cause abdominal cramping in some people. My muscles cramp bad particularly bad in the morning time when I am on such stimulants, which I attribute to the combination of the stimulants and dehydration. Sounds strange to me, has he sought out a doctors opinion?

all i would suggest is trying to warm up first, and dont go hammer and tong in to it, find what exercises work and just ease into it and maybe dont start with abs wait till after the other exercises youve chosen to pair it with and warm up your core, less haste more speed
