Hi, i've been on rippetoe's program for a year or two and recently moved on to this program & enjoy it so far.
Stats : 21 yrs old 6'1'' 190 pounds Best Lifts : Squat : 305x5 Deadlift : 365x3 Row : 205x8 MP : 150x5 Bench : 205x3 Monday (Volume) Squat - 4x8 Bench - 4x6 Barbell rows - 4x8 Wednesday (Recovery) Squat - 2x5 & 80% Seated press - 3x5 Pull ups - 3x8-15 Accessory: abs/lower back Friday (Intensity) Squat - ramp to max set of 3 or 5 Bench - ramp to max triple Deadlift - ramp to max single, double or triple Accessory: BB curl, tri push down, lateral raises all 2x8-12 The thing is i'm about to start my first cycle and I was wondering if I should continue with this program that is working okay so far, or move on to a split with more of a volume emphasis training. I thought that maybe i'd need more isolations exercices to at least cover all minor muscle groups so that I grow proportionned. This program is working good right now to gain strength, but as I will be aiming more for size during my cycle of test+dbol, what do you think I should be doing? thanks a lot for responses i'll rep. Thats a unique split that I like in the short term but moving into your cycle I would suggest more volume and workouts.
I like that split though to be used for a few wks. Seldom do I agree with doing anything but legs on one day but this is an exception. Do you have any splits that you have in mind? I have a thread on splits that have alot of examples that members have contributed to. Ill see if I can dig it up. Glad to have your input. We can use more people talking training. Here are just a few examples: Whats your favorite Training split?!!?!??

i agree with para, i lift instinctively and old school as well....always to failure, i think that unless your genetically maxxed out or competing....a simple routine with good form and hard work will make you grow.

i'm with para an sham too.... i don't do numbers. i've always use a good training split (one that works good for me), 3 on, 1 off. but here lately, i've just been doing whatever i feel like my body needs to do. i workout so hard that it usually takes a good 3 days to recover any given muscle group, so after three days if i feel good enough to do it, i'll workout that muscle again. if not, i'll do a muscle that feels fresh. and i just do 3-4 sets per exercise, and 3-4 exercises per muscle. i try to stay in the 4-8 rep range.
i dunna, it looks pretty retarded on paper, but once i get in the gym with my headphones on and slipknot yelling in my ears, i always get an intense workout. |
