Default Shin splints

Hey again everyone,

Haven't been around for awhile but back just about daily for a very quick check at the moment. Sorry just have a lot going on. I train in Muay Thai so not the same type training as many others around here. I have been doing 500 reps of heavy plastic hose jump rope before running 5 km 4-5 days a week followed by as many as I can manage after catching my breath from the run (force myself to do at least 300 more.) I also do at least 3 days a week of striking combos (mostly punches and kicks, some elbows and knees) on the heavy bag, 3-4 3 minute rounds with a 2 minute break in between, more jump rope as mentioned above before and after each days work. I am only doing 2 days a week weight training currently as I am in between gyms and its the only convenient time I have to get to a gym. I do one day of legs (squats, calf raises, etc) and back, one day of shoulders and arms. I also do 200-300 sit ups and 300-400 press ups almost every day. I am just off PCT and a couple days ago during the run had significant shin splint pain. Not enough to make me quit, but enough to make me take the next day off. Today they are still slightly sore. I can't find anyone who can tell me anything to help other than to alter my workout or to stop entirely. I dont mind changing and am considering getting a bike to replace the running, but am not willing to reduce the intensity of my work, do you think that would help solve the problem? Actually any advice at all from any of you (especially MMA or endurance athletes) about dealing with shin splints will be greatly appreciated. Hope this makes sense, that's all the time I have at the moment...

well to answer my own question today, after the second day of recovery (only upper body work, no kicking combos on the bag) the shin splints have gone away. I saw the post Willy made and think I'll change my weight training routine as well such that I wont be doing legs and back on the same days. Looks like I'll be joining the new gym on Monday, really looking forward to that.
