I want to take some type of martial art

Russian martial art and muay thai mainly, currently still studying. BJJ is on my list of to do.

I took some shinkyokushinka and i think that it was excellent. Very agressive, but hard. And i also took Tae boxing, it was nice coz u use ur kneew elbopws hands and legs, and u burn a lot of fat.

Opi, make a list of the martial arts that you think you'd like, then search your area. You may not fine the first one on your list, but as you go down it, inveritably, you will a martial art you may like. Then its up to whether you like the instructor or not. That has a lot to do with it also.

muay thai is a good bet if you dont have krav there,imo anway

bjj or muay thai hands down. if not that then try to do some greco roman wrestling or judo.my friend started jiu jitsu less than 2 years ago and has already tapped black belts in the world championships. if you look at most of the mixed martial arts fighters these days almost all of them have some form of jiu jitsu in their backround. it's a great way to make up for a size disadvantage with an opponent, not to mention a good way to get your cardio health up.

If I understand, Krav Maga (aka Jew Jitsu) is strictly a self defense, on-the-streets system. Very effective, so I hear, but not a martial art where you can go around and compete against others in the same discipline.

Krav Maga was originally taught to the Mossad, and from there went to the IDF. Very practical when you need it. That and a combat ax or an entrenching tool are what I prefer to smite my enemies with when its time to be up close and personal......

I train with Mexican Ju-do. Ju-don't-know if I have a knife and ju-don't-know if I have a gun.

I'd probably sign up for BJJ and thai boxing, doing two classes of each per week. You'd be in some CRAZY cardio shape, and be able to handle your business both standing up and on the ground.
