use what they tell you passively...aka only learn what you need and the other stuff forget after the session. So, in a Judo situation, learn the throws and take downs without the gi, and forget the 'rules' they teach you - always bear MMA in mind.

You can never have stand up that's 'too good' so keep wacking at it and find a bjj/sambo place to work in if you can.

IMO, if you have an all around MMA gym, that is the best, but you're going to need to work with someone at your level of skill and intensity - otherwise it's wasting your time. I train with a world champion (HW) in a few sports, it gives me a challenge and ability to concentrate on technique and skill.

you can learn stand up on a punching bag to be serious, but take downs/throws/defense/subs/GnP has to be learned very closely with a professional...

I get way to irritated for not being able to do my natural style, even tho I win pretty much all the time when sparring freely. I feel like judo is wasting my time, time I can spend on getting stronger.

Considering stand-up, there is only one guy in my gym that can come close to my skill level, he's a former european champion in tkd, now cross training in mma. He's my main sparring partner.

Quite funny actually, he's waaaaaay better at kicking, but I just bull-rush him, don't give him the time and space to execute more than 1 kick and clinch/infight and overpower, and with my boxing experience he's toast. He's trying to find ways to counter that and allow him to keep distance, but so far he just doesn't know how. If my trainer tell me to keep my distance, I usually go home with 2 bruised legs. In short, I'm having great stand-up training at my gym, so the need to train muay thai seperatly again is not that high.

On the ground there are people who have better technique, but lack the strength and mass to go up against me. I have a 20 pound advantage over the second heaviest fighter(used to be 50 when I still was 114kg(about 250lbs) My trainer recently adviced me to stop using my superior strength and focus on technique to win, and it has paid off a bit.

I think I'm going to look into greco-roman wrestling, and look if it's done around my place.
